OCTOBER 27, 2022

From coming-of-age flicks to political tales, a dynamic range of cinema is at every online user’s disposal. Now, you can add more award-winning documentaries on top of that list, as “Sunday Beauty Queen” will be available for free streaming starting this week.

Directed by Baby Ruth Villarama, the documentary follows a group of domestic workers in Hong Kong, as they prepare for the event of their dreams—an annual beauty pageant, where a crown awaits one of its eager contestants. While framed by this event, “Sunday Beauty Queen” is a portrait of lives that are all-too-familiar for Filipinos, highlighting the plight of Overseas Filipino Workers and the struggles they face while miles away from their home country.

The documentary had its world premiere as an entry to the 21st Busan International Film Festival back in 2016, while it had its domestic run during the same year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. As for its free, online streaming premiere, you can expect the documentary to drop on May 15 at a YouTube screen nearest you.
