Repertory Philippines takes the audience behind the stage with “The Dresser” | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Ever wondered about the inner workings and hidden secrets of the theater? For the third play of its 2019 season, Repertory Philippines (REP) is taking its audiences behind the stage curtains as it presents the 1980 West End and Broadway play “The Dresser.”

It follows the story of Sir, a distressed thespian, and his loyal dresser Norman during a wartime production of the tragedy “King Lear.” Sir arrives on set deranged, while Norman does his best to ensure that the show goes on despite the theater company’s disapproval. Here, the characters question their dedication to the theater and if their efforts are worth the hardship and heartbreak.

The play is based on Academy-award winner Ronal Harwood’s experiences as a dresser to actor Sir Donal Wolfit, who is the figure for the character Sir in the play.

For REP’s adaptation, theater veterans Audie Gemora and Teroy Guzman will grace the stage and play Sir and Norman respectively. Loy Arcenas, director of the award-winning musical movie “Ang Larawan,” is also making his REP directorial debut with this one.

“The Dresser” will run from May 3 to 26 at the Onstage Theater in Greenbelt 1, Makati City. For tickets, call REP at 451-1474 or TicketWorld at 891-9999.
