Load your watchlist with Binisaya 2021’s regional films - SCOUT

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Is your watchlist running low on local cinema gems? In case your TLs failed to catch on, our favorite “DIY film festival” is on the roll online. For this year’s run, filmmaker Keith Deligero-founded fest Binisaya has packed not only films, but also other virtual events for the young aspiring filmmaker sitting in front of their screen, waiting for it to produce ideas for them.

Set from Nov. 11 to 20, the platform championing regional cinematic narratives has lined up film premieres. This includes “Binisaya Shorts” and “Days Of The New,” scheduled every 11:11 p.m. on KTX. Everyone is also welcome at exit hangouts with folks from the Binisaya team and other invited guests. To top off the experience, a masterclass on film producing with Gale Osorio (producer of Deligero’s films “Iskalawags” and “Lily”) is also happening on Nov. 20, which doubles as Binisaya’s awarding day.

“Back when we started making films, there were no local Cebuano platforms where we could screen the films we made. We had to do it ourselves. Little did we know that the pop-up screenings we did at the beach, on rooftops, basements, and basketball courts would turn into a film festival,” Deligero told us in an exclusive interview in 2019. If there’s anything that deserves support, it’s the grassroots initiatives that are all about authentic and experimental storytelling.
