Leon Gallery (G/F, Corinthian Bldg., Legaspi Village, Makati City; tel. 8467416) recently held a successful auction, a liquidation of the artworks owned by Prudentialife Plans, Inc., initiated by the Philippine Insurance Commission. All 55 lots sold, almost all reaching the hammer price several times higher than their starting bid price.
Tam Austria’s “Three Graces” fetched P236,000, while Oscar Zalameda’s “Fishermen” sold for P 500,000. José Joya’s 1993 drawing of “Mother and Child” sold for P350,000. Fernando Amorsolo’s 1939 “Baguio Scene” went for P4,100,000.
