On Jan. 31, Makati City mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay announced that non-Makati residents who work in the city are included in its free, COVID-19 mass-vaccination plan. Aside from residents and business owners, employees of registered Makati businesses will be able to receive the coronavirus vaccine care of the city.

“We are confident we will have enough to cover our essential workers who keep businesses running,” Binay announced in a statement.

“We will use the number of employees declared by the businesses in their business permit applications as (the) basis for the number of employees who will be vaccinated for free. This is our way of helping our economic frontliners,” she continued.

To avail of this program, businesses must have an updated 2021 business permit and are not behind in their tax payments to the city. Companies who have bought vaccines for their employees are not included in the program, the mayor added.

Binay also said that the city will be helping with medical expenses for potential allergic reactions brought about by the vaccine.

“Anybody who experiences adverse effects will receive free hospitalization. For non-residents it will be covered by Philhealth and the ‘Malasakit Financial Assistance’ from the Department of Health,” she said.

Makati City currently has a P1 billion budget for its COVID-19 vaccination plan. The first set of vaccinations for the city’s frontliners are expected to take place this month.
