British supermodel David Gandy, the new image model of SM Men’s Fashion, will walk the runway in the Philippine Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2014 this October.
Gandy, best known as the face of Dolce & Gabanna’s Light Blue and the brand ambassador of Jaguar, was voted the World’s Third Most Successful Male Model by Forbes Magazine in 2009. Considered as the highest paid male model in the world, he was named the Sexiest Man of 2013 by Cosmopolitan Magazine.
He has graced 47 different magazine covers including GQ and Vogue, has been named the Most Beautiful International Male Model by Spanish Glamour in 2008, the Face of Today by Shortlist Magazine in 2011, and the Face of Now by Iconographic 2007.
In a write-up in vogue.co.uk, top fashion photographer Mario Testino said that Gandy has “something of what the ’80s supermodels have. He radiates health and positivity. I think he has what it takes to be very big. It’s exciting because it signifies a shift in men’s fashion. The male model world is changing.”
Gandy was born in 1980 and grew up in Billericay, Essex. He was a Marketing student at the University of Gloucestershire in 2001 when his friends entered him in a modeling competition which he then won.
He went into mainstream modeling in 2005, but became a superstar in 2006 after becoming the brand face of Dolce & Gabbana.
Being British, he became the only male model to dominate the ramp in the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony and was named one of London’s Most Influential People in 2011.
As the new image model of SM Men’s Fashion, he joins the brand’s other endorsers like Hideo Muraoka, Daniel Matsunaga, Fabio Ide and Rafael Do Prado.
A real fashion coup, Gandy’s partnership with SM Men’s Fashion has created a buzz recently, with speculations of his visit to the Philippines.
“Finally, the secret is out. We are glad to announce that David (Gandy) is officially part of SM Men’s Fashion, and we invite everyone to stay tuned to our future campaign, where our latest endorser will exemplify how it is to be a sensible and stylish man of the modern times,” says Ayen Florendo, SM Men’s Fashion assistant vice president for marketing.
