Surf’s up!
The majestic waves of Puraran in Catanduanes province are ready to help local surfers and boost tourism via the first surf music festival set on May 16 to 18.
“Every time our surfers compete in other places, all they have are ragged boards and broken pieces of surf equipment,” said Ezra Efondo, festival director of Catanduanes Reef Break 2014.
The project aims to raise funds for proper surf equipment for local surfers who compete elsewhere.
The surf festival set at Puraran Surf Camp in the town of Baras, Catanduanes, will host a surfing competition and clinic, a beach party, downhill skate, paddle race, bikini open and “barakalan” or open market.
Performers lined up for the three-day event are DJs Jade Hartman and Marts, Lion and the Scouts, Heretic, Indio I, Southcard, Brix Tan, Soul Rebel and more.
As one of the top local surf destinations, Catanduanes also takes pride in its unspoiled beaches and rich cultural heritage.
“The hashtag we are using for promotions, #happyisland, means that no one leaves Catanduanes unhappy and dissatisfied,” Efondo said. “It’s a guarantee.”
Tickets are priced at P200 for a regular pass, which includes a one-day general admission, baller ID band, a bottle of beer, and a raffle ticket.
