Maria Lena Buhay Memorial Foundation Inc., the first oral school for the hearing-impaired in the country, celebrates its 27th foundation day today.
With the theme “Bridging Little Voices @ 27-Yes, We Can!” the celebration starts with a thanksgiving Mass at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel at 9 a.m., followed by a simple program and family get-together.
Sponsors include Pepsi Cola Products Philippines, Banapple, Gardenia Bakeries Philippines, Conti’s Bakeshop and Lola Idang’s Restaurant.
Founded by speech therapist Leticia Nietes-Buhay, a retired UST Speech professor, the school teaches hearing-impaired students to talk, listen, understand and be understood. Most graduates have been mainstreamed and are now gainfully employed.

SM Lanang Premier celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival
SM Lanang Premier celebrates the Chinese Mooncake Festival with an exhibition of traditional Chinese arts until Sept. 14.
“An Exhibit of Chinese and Western Paintings” by the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students of over 200 artworks like paintings, porcelain plates, scrolls and a teapot set are on show at the mall’s atrium.
This is the third year that Chan Lim has staged an exhibit in partnership with SM Lanang Premier.
The exhibit is copresented by Dynamic Youth Inc., the Davao Filipino-Chinese Cultural Foundation, Park Inn by Radisson and Air 21.
