Bounty Fresh Food Inc. offers the following techniques to prepare and cook chicken.
Proper cooking of chicken starts with removing it from the refrigerator or freezer. First, check that no other juices in the ice box have seeped into the meat, regardless of whether it is still in the plastic or not. The frozen chicken should be thawed using the microwave or in cold water.
Recent research has advised against washing raw chicken, as this practice can help spread germs up to three feet away from the meat. Do not be concerned about bacteria in the meat—the act of cooking will eliminate them.
Wash your hands with soap and water before handling the chicken—and then wash them again after you have finished cooking. The cutting boards and the sink that you used should also be washed thoroughly. Have a separate chopping board for your chicken meat—and another for the other kinds of food items that you prepare such as fruits and vegetables.
The chicken is ready to be cooked after it has been properly washed and thawed. Do not subscribe to the homegrown tradition of looking at its color. A pinkish hue may be a safe indicator, but it is best to be certain—use a meat thermometer to gauge if your chicken has been cooked or baked properly. A measurement of 165 degrees Fahrenheit is the standard.
