National Book Store’s hotlines
Once upon a time, when we wanted to reserve a book at National Book Store, we had to call a specific branch to ask them to look for it. We do this so often that we now have the number of about seven different stores saved in our phones. But not anymore, because National Book Store has launched its hotlines for orders, reservations and inquiries.
If you’re within Metro Manila, call tel. 8888-NBS (627). If you’re outside Metro Manila, call 1800-10-8888-NBS (627). You may also text 0998-8888-NBS for Smart and Talk N’ Text and 0917-8747269 for Globe and TM subscribers. The hotlines are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Kwentaxi by Juana Change
We’ve been enjoying Juana Change’s Kwentaxi series on Coconuts Manila, where the social activist chronicles her adventures as a cab passenger, transcribing her conversations with different drivers—from the cute and friendly to the wily and evil. Our favorites so far? Uber Papa and Tomoh!
‘English Only, Please’
We were charmed by this Metro Manila Film Festival entry directed by Dan Villegas and cowritten by Antoinette Jadaone and Anj Pessumal. And we’re not the only ones—the film raked in awards and great reviews from critics. Derek Ramsay (who played the New York-based business analyst Julian Parker) and Jennylyn Mercado (Tere Madlansacay, the translator Julian hires) bagged the festival’s acting awards, and we’re not surprised. They were both very natural, and Jennylyn’s flair for comedy was a revelation. “English Only, Please” is still playing in cinemas.
