Last Sept. 29, Inquirer RED sponsored a block screening of Nancy Meyers’ film, “The Intern,” starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, at Century City Mall cinema.

Before the screening, RED editor in chief Ria Prieto welcomed guests that packed the cinema. Emcee was Xandra Rocha.

The theater resounded with laughter and delightful reactions to the film’s humorous and touching scenes. Guests raved about the movie. They left “The Intern,” they said, with a light feeling.

Among the audience were fashion designers Ivarluski Aseron, Joey Samson, Maureen Disini, Gian Romano and TC Alvarez-Sibal; lifestyle blogger Jenni Epperson; Philux’s Jessica Kienle and Stephanie Gonzales; stylists and columnists Mel Cuevas and Citcit Sioson; A2A Safaris’ Tracie and Victor Dizon; restaurateur Ana Lorenzana de Ocampo; entrepreneurs Macky Fah, Ruby Gan, Mika Lagdameo-Martinez, Bobbi Brown’s Sam Sadhwani, Estée’s Tammy Pineda, MAC’s Vanessa Vergara and Bulgari’s Angelina Legaspi.

“The Intern” is about 70-year-old widower and retired phone directory executive Ben Whittaker (De Niro), who joins a senior citizen intern program in a fast-rising e-commerce fashion company.

Quickly becoming the company’s new favorite employee, Ben also sparks an unlikely friendship with the company founder, Jules Ostin (Hathaway).

The film’s true selling point, based on audience reaction, is the charming chemistry between De Niro and Hathaway.
