For the first time in decades, Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI), is featuring Christmas décor inspired by Philippine churches, along Ayala Avenue and around the Makati business district.

Made primarily of rope lights on metal frames, the decor outlines the facades of 10 Philippine churches. The outdoor setup is embellished with clusters of parol or Christmas lanterns and strands of capiz shells hung from palm trees.

As the country hosts the APEC summit, floral stylist Zenas Pineda and ALI’s in-house team wanted to showcase a traditional Filipino Christmas to highlight the country’s heritage and culture.

The 10 churches built by Spanish friars are each over 300 years old. The oldest is the 443-year-old Taal Basilica in Batangas.

The other churches are Nuestra Señora de Guia in Guadalupe, Makati (414 years); Paoay Church in Ilocos Norte (311 years); Binondo Church in Manila (419 years); Lucban Church in Quezon (422 years); Barasoain Church in Bulacan (385 years); St. James the Great Church in Dapitan (384 years); Quipayo Church in Camarines Sur (437 years); Paete Church in Laguna (435 years); and Baclayon Church in Bohol (419 years).
