Carlo Ongchangco does confectionary art with a twist in “Dreams, Delights, and Saccharine Sights” at the Podium Atrium, which opens with an artist’s reception on ’Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.
In the series, the candies are portrayed alongside less comical figures adorned in dandy garments. Confections remind the artist of his childhood—the sugar tickling his mouth, the gratifying feeling of sweetness, and his elation. Over all the memories bring euphoria—as well as a sense of utopia.
“Dreams and Delights” form a binary musing of sentimentality: is the fulfillment of our desires the subject of our happiness? Or is the subject of our happiness the mere fact that we have never-ending desires?
Ongchangco succeeds in grabbing the attention of art lovers with humor-embossed paintings.
Ongchangco earned his degree in Interior Design at the University of Santo Tomas. His artistic influences were expanded when he became part of the Saturday Group of artists.
“Dreams, Delights, and Saccharine Sights” runs until Nov. 10 at the Atrium of Podium. It will move to Galerie Joaquin at the lower ground floor, Nov. 11-18. E-mail [email protected] or [email protected].
