Planning to do some binge watching this upcoming long weekend? Then read on.
HOOQ recently celebrated its second anniversary at the swanky dance club XX XX (twenty twenty) at La Fuerza Plaza, Makati City.
HOOQ executives revealed plans to expand and enhance the popular online video streaming service.
Subscribers will now be treated to new partnerships with Paramount Pictures, BBC Worldwide and the Endemol Shine Group. “Securing new partnerships with these studios is a testament to the fact that HOOQ has the right formula to deliver quality entertainment to Asian homes,” said HOOQ’s chief executive officer Peter Bithos.
“We believe that our success lies in our formula of balancing the best Asian films and dramas alongside solid Hollywood blockbusters and series,” he added.
HOOQ also announced a new service, Transactional VOD (TVOD), that allows big Hollywood movies to be added to HOOQ’s lineup within three months of its theatrical release.
As a second-year anniversary gift, HOOQ is giving current subscribers one free “golden ticket” every month. The ticket allows users to download and watch one premium movie for free.
Local touch
HOOQ is notably unique among other online streaming services because of its strong local content. “In the Philippines, we made sure to put together the best Filipino content for our subscribers with material from top local studios and independent filmmakers.
This, combined with HOOQ’s strategy of serving premium Hollywood content as well as our key distribution partnership with Globe has contributed to making HOOQ the regional leader,” Jane Cruz-Walker, HOOQ Philippines’ country manager, said.
Recent hits such as “Camp Sawi,” “Bakit Lahat ng Gwapo May Boyfriend” and “I Love You to Death” debuted on HOOQ.
“Mano Po 7,” “Die Beautiful,” “The Escort” and “My Rebound Girl” will be on HOOQ within the next quarter, Walker said.
Fresh content
HOOQ also supports local filmmakers who create content for their subscribers.
Their most notable local collaboration is with Filipino filmmaker Erik Matti who will release the sequel to his 2013 crime thriller “On the Job,” which starred Piolo Pascual.
Walker revealed that the sequel will have a two-part release. HOOQ will first release a full-length movie sequel followed by a five-part TV series as a follow-up.
In the Philippines, HOOQ has also inked exclusive deals with Regal Entertainment and Viva Communications for digital rights to their new movies within three months of theatrical release.
In addition, HOOQ is bolstering its line-up of Hollywood studio partnerships with Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., Disney, Dreamworks, Lionsgate, Miramax, Starz and over a hundred Asian studios.
New hit series are now available from Endemol Shine and BBC including “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” “Mistresses” and “Wolf Hall.”
The full catalog of DC shows is now also on HOOQ, including “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Arrow” and “Gotham.”
Meanwhile, “Supergirl,” “Lucifer” and “Powerless” are available to stream within 24 hours of US airing. That’s a lot of TV shows to binge watch this long weekend.
