Get an ephemeral glimpse of heaven with Time Magic's new EP

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Songs are powerful things. Some save lives, some trigger longing for past love, and others fuel you with rage. Time Magic, Similarobjects‘ other nom de guerre, used this premise of catharsis for his new EP Music for Sensory Deprivation. Released under artist collective BuwanBuwan, this one gives you a glimpse of what heaven feels like: peaceful and harmonious, as your soul leaves your body and wanders into the unknown.

Time Magic takes us on an essential meditative journey for when it gets rough–and we are eternally grateful.

From this experimental approach on music, we see an existential side of Jorge, which is reminiscent of Eastern philosophy’s spirituality through tranquility. In a modern day full of pressure, Time Magic takes us on an essential meditative journey for when it gets rough–and we are eternally grateful.

The first track from this voyage “1043” begins with uplifting atmospheric layers. Inklings of eerie layers ring subtly throughout and cleverly complement the main atmospheric uplifting pad layer. The second track “1050” enters very eerily and keeps this unearthly layer as the main focus. Some echoing of shuffling introduces itself in the middle to latter parts of the track and adds to the sinister whirr. The same pad layer in “1043” was used in this track which ironically delivered an effective diversity.

The third track “1055,” albeit similar to “1043,” is lighter and more uplifting. Louder layers pour in like a wave at the 7:20 minute mark of the song. The loudness then dies down and introduces the main layer once again at the 8 minute mark. “1058” is notably the darkest song in the EP. Highlighted by darker notes and layers, the song can perfectly fit a desolate scene in any film or show. At the 7 minute mark a loud wave of dark layers come periodically to deliver chills to any listener. The last track “1106” revisits the pad and notes present in the first track, although uses the pad differently and slightly gloomier. A notable robotic ringing echoes on the left and right pan of the track. Towards the latter of the song the uplifting pad dominates and takes listeners back to a more lighter feel.

It carries you through a cloud that veers sight over the lives below.

The whole of Music for Sensory Deprivation breathes and floats. Every song contains a periodic rise and fall. This fact can be affirmed if a listener carefully observes the soundwaves shown on soundcloud’s player. No moment in this EP would allow a listener to fall abruptly. Instead, it carries you through a cloud that veers sight over the lives below. You are transported into different serenities, outside of the urban hustle, and inside of the celestial.

Stop time and experience magic below.
