PARAÑAQUE CITY, Philippines — Metro Manila dominated the 2019 Miss Philippines Earth pageant with two of its representatives cracking the final 5. A Pasigueña bagged the top title.
Janelle Tee, a former “Wowowin” host and a repeat candidate, snagged the 2019 Miss Philippines Earth crown from 39 other aspirants in ceremonies staged at The Cove Manila, the pool bar facility of Okada Manila in Parañaque City on Wednesday afternoon.
This is the first national beauty pageant to hold its finals in the afternoon. Traditionally, coronation ceremonies take place in the evening.
In an earlier interview with the Inquirer, Executive Vice President Lorraine Schuck of pageant organizer Carousel Productions said the change in schedule is in line with the contest’s advocacy of protecting the environment by conserving electricity.
The pageant’s winners are dubbed “Beauties for a Cause” and serve as spokespersons for environmental causes.
Teel, who first joined in 2014, succeeded last year’s winner Celeste Cortesi, who finished in the semifinals of the 2018 Miss Earth pageant.
Tee will represent the Philippines in the global Miss Earth competition in October.
Joining her in the winners’ circle are Miss Philippines Air Ana Monica Tan of Tagoloan, Miss Philippines Water Chelsea Fernandez of Tacloban City, Miss Philippines Fire Alexandra Dayrit of Marikina City, and Miss Philippines Ecotourism Karen Nicole Piccio of Maasin.
The ceremonies will have a delayed telecast on ABS-CBN on July 14 on “Sunday’s Best” bloc after “Gandang Gabi Vice.”
