Colorist Aner Sebastian’s newest exhibit, “Prismatic Revelations” at Galerie Joaquin at U.P. Town Center, shows the artist further refining his art, celebrating the world of hues and tints while evincing a new capacity for restraint and self-control.
Viewed from a distance, the works partake of Impressionist sensibilities, filling the eyes with seeming daubs of paint and encouraging it to move happily across the canvas.
Sebastian has opted to use the vegetative and floral realm as his own personal metaphor for man’s visions, states of mind, moods and impressions. He enlightens us as to the relationship of man’s existence on earth with nature. Abundant and rich indeed is the fruit of this, with the artist seeming to equate it with spirited elements in his compositions.
Notable is Sebastian’s use of geometry. The artist presents nature’s views in segments, in triptychs and diptychs, or in multiple separation of areas, successfully framing each section, and allowing for layers of light to shine through simultaneously. —CONTRIBUTED
