KAMIKAWA, Hokkaido — Red and yellow mountain ash and alpine bear berry leaves covered the summit of Mt. Kurodake in Kamikawa, Hokkaido, over the weekend.
The 1,984-meter-high peak is located in the Daisetsuzan mountain range, which is known for having the earliest leaf color change in Japan.
The leaves began changing early this month as usual, and those at the foot of the mountain are expected to turn in early October, according to the local tourism company Rinyu Corp.
