Actress Rica Peralejo paid tribute to her mom, Alicia Peralejo, in a heartfelt message honoring the many sacrifices she did for their family.
Peralejo cited the good qualities of her mom as can be seen in her Instagram page today, May 9, in celebration of Mother’s Day, where she posted a photo of her sons instead of her mom’s.
“On mother’s day I will not put up a photo of my mama but of the people her motherhood is able to bless until today,” she explained.
“These kids have a great home because my mother, through the plenty and the lack she’s been thru, never failed to provide food on our table, and a home where everyone experienced love, joy, and rest.”
Peralejo shared that her mom saw to it that the entire family would often have lots of adventures, such as through out-of-town trips. She also recounted the food her mom would pack for their trips and her cost-saving ways.

“Baon adobo sa malaking kaldero para hindi na bumili ng extra lunch. Wala din oorder muna ng drinks, nakakamahal ng bill. Pero ang importante: magkakasama tayo,” she recalled. (Bring adobo in a big pot so there would be no need to buy extra lunch. No one orders drinks ahead too, it will bloat up the bill. But here’s the most important: we are all together.)
On trips to Japan, her mom would already be exploring and discovering things while Peralejo would still be asleep.
“Original mama the explorer sya talaga hahahaha!” she said, comparing her mom to the cartoon character “Dora the Explorer.” (She’s the original mama the explorer.)
She also extolled her mom’s other virtues, saying, “These kids have never had to see a mother so insecure about being female because my mother never exhibited inferiority even in a crowd full of men.”
“These kids have an enterprising, practical, innovative mother because my mother was always one who found a way,” she added.
Peralejo also calls her mom the “unwitting architect of the future.”
“Little did she know that just by providing for us in ways she knew how, she also was securing the future of my children. That is how far the strength of a mother goes. It is the providence of God for the generations,” she explained.
“Happy mother’s day, Mama. Thank you for all that you have given me,” Peralejo said. “It is quite a lot. It is an amazing deposit, investment, that will go down this very long line of our family. Love you deeply.” JB
