Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea presents its year-end exhibit “Rondo V,” representing its fifth year, until Jan. 2, 2022, at Altro Mondo Creative Space gallery.
Rondo is a musical form found in the last movement of a musical piece. As such, the works included in the exhibit are in constant dialogue with each other, coming together to punctuate the space with meaning and memories of a year coming to an end.
The exhibit features an exceptional roster of Filipino talent, whose work encompasses myriad styles and themes, laid out like the finest of Mozart’s compositions.
Orley Ypon’s “Life and Nature” is a snapshot of a provincial idyll, with frenzied brushstrokes depicting otherwise tranquil pastoral beauty, a scene of traditional family life emerging in the background.
Tammy de Roca’s “Vergel’s Golt” is a similar chronicle of the natural world in which she seizes the tumult of the sea in thick impasto waves.
In contrast to this, Phyllis Zaballero’s “Window Whimsy #5” is true to its name. The work is a playful hodgepodge of neon colors and odd silhouettes straight out of a bygone era.
Antipas Delotavo’s “Elixir” is another fanciful excursion from convention, which sees a man caught between a random assortment of floating paraphernalia: a sewing machine, perfume bottles and a clock.
