There have been many unconventional makeup trends seen on Instagram. From barbed wire brows to glitter butts, beauty bloggers have been looking for new ways to play around with makeup. The latest trend taking over our IG feeds is yellow blush. Contour and highlight are taking a backseat as blush becomes the new favorite of some.
People have been experimenting with highlight and lipstick so it’s about time that we do the same with blush. Like with any unusual makeup trend, some people are skeptical about applying yellow shades to their face. However, Brooklyn-based makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes tells Allure that, “Yellow is peach and brown’s long lost sibling.” Which means you can complement it with those tones or contrast it with red and blue.
When it comes to the application of this blush color, the draping technique is used. We saw this technique used in Rihanna’s makeup at this year’s Met Gala.

If you think you’re ready to try this new trend, we’ve listed some makeup products you can use to achieve this yellow blush look.
M.A.C Eye Shadow in Chrome Yellow
Unfortunately, makeup brands have yet to come out with a true yellow blush. In the meantime, you can use a yellow eye shadow instead. M.A.C’s eye shadow in Chrome Yellow is a good choice because it appears lighter on the skin once applied, making it a buildable color. Apply as little or as much as you want, depending on how daring you want your look to be. Available at SM Aura Premier.
Becca Ombre Rouge Eye Palette
If you are leaning towards trying this yellow blush trend out with brown tones, then this eye palette from Becca has everything you need. It has five shades ranging from neutral to bold depending on what kind of eye makeup you want to achieve. The shadows also double as contour and eyebrow powder. Available at Sephora PH.
theBalm Mr. Write (Now) in Bill B. Mocha
Ditch your usual black eyeliner for a muted brown one. Use this pencil liner from theBalm along your upper and lower lash lines. Smudge lightly if you want a smokey eye. Available at Beauty Bar, Central Square.
Burberry Full Kisses in 505 Nude
Since this look calls for the blush to stand out, go for a nude lip shade. A light brown lipstick will complement the soft eye makeup and the daring yellow blush. Try the Burberry Full Kisses lipstick in the shade 505 Nude for this. It will give you fuller-looking lips for about eight hours. Available at Sephora PH.
Benefit They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara in Brown
Keeping with the brown tones, go for mascara with a similar hue. This mascara from Benefit Cosmetics will lengthen and curl your lashes from base to tip. It is the perfect finishing touch to your subtle eye look. Available at Greenbelt 5.
