Filipino cinema celebrated its centennial just before the decade ended. With our brand of cinema turning 100 years old, it’s hard not to think about its future. Where will regional cinema take us? Is the Metro Manila Film Fest salvageable? What fresh stories will we create through films?
It’s a lot to think about. Good thing we can get some of those Q’sanswered through student film festivals like the University of the Philippines-Diliman’s Piling Obrang Vidyo XVI (POV).
Now in its 16th year, POV XVI continues its tradition of providing a platform for film students nationwide. Expect another year of films showing a fresh set of alternative narratives from Filipino cinema’s future storytellers.
It’s happening on Feb. 1 at the UP Cinema Adarna, from 11:30 to 7 pm. Get ready to watch students works from Asia Pacific Film Institute, De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, Far Eastern University, Mapua University, University of Makati, University of San Carlos, University of Santo Tomas, and POV’s home base, University of the Philippines – Diliman.
