Why can’t people follow simple traffic rules? | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

A video of a woman showing blunt and disrespectful behavior towards a traffic enforcer went viral yesterday, with over 7.5 million views as of writing. The gist of it, according to Facebook user Gadget Addict, was that two motorcycles were stopped because the passengers weren’t wearing helmets.

The woman, instead of taking the chance to explain herself, became “abusive” and complained that one of the enforcers was laughing at her. You can watch the footage below:

Why wasn’t she wearing her helmet, you ask? It’s because she needed it to put her takeout away. What’s worse, 15 minutes after issuing the riders a ticket, the enforcers came across the motorcycle again and noticed that the woman was still not wearing her helmet.

Traffic rules are simple

R.A. 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009 clearly states that “both driver and passenger must wear a DTI-approved (i.e. with an ICC sticker) helmets when riding a motorcycle.” Tell that to a 12-year-old and they’ll easily understand what it means. But grown-ups? Come on.

Just like walking on the pedestrian lane and following traffic lights, it’s our obligation as disciplined citizens to abide by the law, especially if our safety is concerned. We’re not asked to solve a math equation here, so why do a lot of us still don’t seem to get it?

I know that traffic enforcers aren’t the easiest people to deal with, but sometimes just because they act a certain way doesn’t mean they’re always wrong. Check yourself and calmly admit if you made a mistake (unless you did it on purpose, then don’t even think about fighting over that ticket). If you’re sure you didn’t, then that’s when you fight.

The lesson? Always, always wear your helmet. And bring an eco bag with you so you have something to store your takeout.
