It’s been days since the film’s Oscar sweep, but the “Parasite” mania has yet to fade away. And with buzz on the Bong Joon-ho-approved HBO series, it’s probably not going to disappear any time soon. Despite controversies amid the interwebs on the possibility of an English-language “Parasite” adaptation/spin-off/what have you, the HBO-helmed show is still underway—and with Mark Ruffalo supposedly starring in it.
According to reports by Collider, the actor is currently being eyed to play one of the series’ leads, yet the role’s official title has yet to be dropped. Word on the Hollywood street implies that Adam McKay—who’s working alongside Bong Joon-ho—has tapped Mark Ruffalo, however, no official deal has been sealed.

Several internet users have expressed their distaste on the concept of an English-language “Parasite,” but director Bong Joon-ho has his reasons in contemplating the series—or really, the six-hour expanded film. “I had all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script,” he says. “I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film.”
While some stay iffy (and understandably so), we’re taking comfort in the director’s involvement. I’ll chant with you on this one, “Parasite” hive: in Bong Joon-ho we trust.
