7 unreleased games we can’t wait to play

The latest games to hit the market include sequels gamers have been looking forward to for years

As a gamer, it can be quite difficult keeping up with the latest releases. Just as long-awaited titles are released, even better ones are announced just as quickly—leaving consumers unsure of which to prioritize, and their wallets at risk of drying up.

Just this week, yet another batch of new games has been announced, adding to an already packed backlog. From the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII remake to a God of War spin-off, the newest games to hit the market have gamers all around the world waiting in excitement.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Following its original release on the PlayStation in 1997, Final Fantasy VII established itself as one of the franchise’s most iconic titles. Thanks to its then-groundbreaking graphics and gameplay, unprecedented for its time, it continues to hold relevance among gamers decades after its release. 

For the Final Fantasy VII remake project, the Square Enix development team took the legendary game to new heights—not only by bringing it to life on modern hardware with improved visuals but also by expanding the well-known story into three massive parts—with its conclusion coming to the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

The Wolf Among Us 2

First released in 2013, The Wolf Among Us is set in Fabletown, a neighborhood where folklore characters live. As Sheriff Bigby Wolf, players are tasked with solving mysterious crimes, as well as handing down both justice and judgment to those responsible for disturbing the peace.

Thirteen years later, in “The Wolf Among Us 2,” Bigby Wolf works from the shadows, as he is betrayed, framed, and exiled by his own people. With a story that unfolds based on how the game is played, player choice shapes the future of Fabletown, determining whether Bigby’s legacy becomes one of redemption or ruin.

Stranger Than Heaven

Stranger Than Heaven follows a young boy who sneaks aboard a ship to Japan. His name is Makoto Daito, born to an American father and a Japanese mother.

What follows is a 50-year saga of men with nowhere to go and their desperate struggle to find a home—set in 1915, Kokura, Fukuoka; 1929, Kure, Hiroshima; 1943, Minami, Osaka; 1951, Atami, Shizuoka; and 1965, Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Alien: Isolation 2

First released in 2014, Alien Isolation is set 15 years after the original 1979 film. It follows Amanda Ripley aboard the space station Sevastopol, as she struggles to survive against a rogue Xenomorph.

Twelve years later, Alien: Isolation 2 brings players to a remote, storm-ravaged colony world, where players have to endure the elements on the planet’s surface, on top of running away from another Xenomorph.

In 2014, Alien: Isolation made headlines for the Xenomorph’s impressive artificial intelligence (AI), which made an adaptive predator that kept players constantly on edge. With its upcoming follow-up, fans are expecting a new-and-improved Xenomorph that will terrorize players at an even greater clip.

Resident Evil Veronica

Available on PlayStation®5, Nintendo Switch™ 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows

A remake of the 2000s, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, the upcoming game is set three months after the events of Resident Evil 2. It follows Claire Redfield, who travels to France in search of her brother, Chris Redfield.However, when she is captured and brought to the remote Rockfort Island, a touching reunion turns into a struggle for survival as the island experiences its own biological outbreak.

Silent Hill: Townfall

Available on PlayStation®5 and Windows

Yet another survival horror title from Capcom, Silent Hill: Townfall brings the iconic franchise to the fog-filled streets of St. Amelia in 1996 Scotland.

The upcoming game follows Simon, a mysterious character who finds himself in St. Amelia, determined to “put things right.” All he has on him besides his clothes is an IV bag and a medical wristband with his name on it. He heads to the town with no leads but the voices from the CRTV he picked up along the way.

God of War Laufey

Available on PlayStation®5

Released in 2018, the acclaimed reboot to the God of War franchise briefly introduced us to Laufey, Kratos’ departed wife and mother to Atreus.

Following 2022’s God of War Ragnarök, the upcoming spin-off title brings us to Laufey’s journey past her death. But this time, her opponents are no pushovers. Set in the world of Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods, Laufey squares off against ruthless gods from across mythology in a vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic.
