In commemoration of the Philippine Veterans Week which also covers the Day of Valor on Apr. 9, all Philippine soldiers may avail unlimited free rides at the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) for seven days, starting Apr. 5 (Friday) until Apr. 11 (Thursday).
The LRT-2 said in an advisory posted today that the free rides can be availed by veterans and their personal companion. It is available at any time from 4:30 a.m. to the rail transit’s last trip at 10:30 p.m.
The only thing veterans have to do is present their Philippine Veterans Affairs Office identification card at any of the 11 stations.
As of writing, the LRT-1 and the Metro Rail Transit-3 haven’t announced if they will follow suit, the way they did last year.
While this is only a small gesture, it serves as a simple reminder of our history and the people we should pay our respects to. It’s important that we are reminded of these things, especially at this time when disinformation and historical revisionism are at its rise.
Remember that we are not only paying tribute to the patriotism and sacrifices of Filipino war veterans who fought during World War II but also all those who rendered military service whether at a time of war or peace.
