The ‘Percy Jackson’ TV series we deserve is officially coming - SCOUT

OCTOBER 27, 2022

The redemption of the “Percy Jackson” live-action is near, Camp Half-Blood kids—and it’ll be televised.

Nearly two years after reports surfaced of a new “Percy Jackson” series in “early development,” the news has become official. Streaming service Disney+ has handed a series order on the live-action series based on Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” books, as announced by the author himself.

“The wait is over, demigods,” Riordan said in a video message. “I am thrilled to be the first to tell you that ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ is really, truly, and for sure coming to your screens. The smart folks at Disney+ have given us the green light.”

The book series, which was first published in 2005, follows 12-year-old Percy Jackson, who discovers he has a godly parent—Poseidon—right when he enters a camp for demigods.

Percy’s adventures have been filmed for the big screen with 2010’s “The Lightning Thief” and 2013’s “Sea of Monsters” adaptations, but if you were one of the many, many people left a bit disappointed by them, best believe that things will run differently this time around with Riordan behind the scenes as co-writer.

“The Old Man’s” Jon Steinberg will write alongside the author, while “The Mysterious Benedict Society’s” James Bobin will direct. According to Deadline, production will kick into gear mid-2022, with casting currently in the works.

In the meantime, we have a few pitches for Riordan and co. to ponder on: Here are a few Camp Half-Blood moments we’re crossing our fingers for.
