It’s been a day since the Met Gala, but the “Queen of Genovia” tweets are still gracing our TLs. There’s no doubt why it was trending on Twitter. Again. With how Anne Hathaway dressed up for this year’s Met Gala, many online users couldn’t help but reminisce about her iconic portrayal of Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi in “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.”
The Met Gala 2023 followed the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme in honor of the late German fashion designer and Chanel artistic director Karl Lagerfeld, who died four years ago. Anna Wintour—Vogue’s editor in chief since 1988—organized the prestigious event.
As much as we would’ve loved to see Anne channel Andy Sachs of “The Devil Wears Prada” and wear her legendary Chanel boots, the Versace custom piece she wore was nothing short of stunning.

The combination of the classic French tweed material, pearls, and safety pins, mixed with the modern and daring slit, made Anne look regal yet edgy—while the fingerless gloves and Bulgari jewels added a touch of elegance and sophistication to the ensemble.
In an interview with Vogue, Donatella Versace said: “For Anne, I wanted to create a gown to celebrate a conversation between Karl and Versace.”
“The dress is a tribute to our shared ’90s experience—tweed, pearls and camellias mixed with safety pins, slashes, and a corset. Anne looks powerful, feminine, stunning and of course, iconic. Exactly like Karl made women feel in his dresses,” Donatella added.

She looked like true royalty. No wonder everyone was dazzled and quickly looked back on her role in “The Princess Diaries” franchise.
BTW, this is also a reminder that “The Princess Diaries 3” is in the works, reports say. According to a digital magazine, television writer Aadrita Mukerji is said to be the scriptwriter, with Debra Martin Chase returning to produce the franchise. As for the main characters, we’re still waiting for Julie Andrews and Anne’s confirmation.
