For Duterte’s pancit party—err, training—for police and nurses: a list of recommendations | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Last night—Sunday midnight—President Rodrigo Duterte addressed the nation in a speech responding to the medical community’s call for the reimposition of enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila.

A few plans he laid out with the help of his cabinet include—apart from putting back Metro Manila and nearby provinces under modified ECQ—recruiting more doctors and nurses, giving a stipend of up to P15,000 for afflicted frontliners, and training police officers and nurses willing to be deployed in a big auditorium with “masarap na pancit” as merienda.

We are all for “masarap na pancit” merienda, so we will do our part to help by recommending places where we can get the best version of this Filipino favorite.

Because frontliners deserve nothing but the best, here’s a “siksik, liglig at nag-uumapaw sa sahog na pancit” by one of the best Filipino restaurants right now, Toyo Eatery. It has meat and seafood combined and mixed with thick egg noodles.

For something more familiar, go for the classic pancit Malabon from the source. Shrimp, squid and egg with short noodles are filling and are guaranteed to empower our police and nurses.

A two-in-one meal with complex textures and flavors is the perfect way to let these heroes know that they matter to us. You can even throw in some rice to go with the crispy sisig to make it a complete meal should the training hours extend.

Crispy pata, buttered chicken, and pancit sa bilao

This crowd-pleaser draws crowds (pre-quarantine) to this drive-thru restaurant at the Pasay motel Mahal Kita. And why not? It’s customizable. You can choose what type of noodles you want in your pancit: canton or bihon or better yet, a combination of both!

You can barely see the vermicelli noodles underneath these bilaos but that’s usually a good sign. Focus instead on the generous amounts of toppings like the Tuguegarao longganisa, crispy tinapa, fish skin chicharon, eggs, lemongrass squid, annatto shrimp and chili garlic.
