Just what exactly is Dov Charney’s problem?

American Apparel has dished more dirt on its ousted CEO and founder Dov Charney, which include outrageous racist statements against Filipinos. The clothing company is airing out this basket of dirty laundry to counter Dov’s claims that he was illegally fired from his own company.

The newest set of documents  released in courts explore more of  Dov Charney’s abusive behavior which include insulting his employees by calling them  “Filipino pigs…with your faces in the trough.”

If indeed proven true, Dov can be deemed quite the swine on top of the allegations of his sexual misconduct toward American Apparel models and mishandling of funds. It goes to show that even in the seemingly most progressive of work environments, Filipinos are still subject to utter discrimination, even from parties that we have no association with.

The clothing company has come under fire for racist and offensive campaigns, most recent of which is the “Made In Bangladesh” ads that came out last year. It’s alarming that Dov represents a culture that still tolerates such behavior and thinking.

Moving forward, however, we hope that American Apparel will try its best to clean up its act. Dov may be out, but will the sick culture that tolerated him be completely washed out?

Dov was booted out as CEO of American Apparel  in June of last year, almost 25 years after conceiving the brand when he was a college freshman at Tufts University.
