My first time visiting a sex shop as a virgin

Two things you should probably know about me before you start reading this article:

I’m a virgin who finds difficulty in looking for sex partners
I’m horny AF
Masturbating is fun and all that, but sometimes, my sexually inexperienced self can’t help but crave a bit more. After all, you can only get so much pleasure from the touch of your own fingers. My friends who know all about my woes and lack of bedroom action eventually suggested that I try something a little bit kinkier—a sex toy.

At my early twenties, I’m open to experimenting with new things and discovering more about what my body likes and doesn’t like, whether that includes the participation of a living, breathing person or not. And hey, since I can’t find an actual human I’m attracted to enough to do the deed with, why not go for a battery-operated toy friend?

Unfortunately, what I’ve heard about sex shops in Manila isn’t as fun as I’d like to imagine. A close friend of mine narrated her horror story of having to crawl through a tiny trapdoor in Greenhills to get to a musty, unfriendly-looking toy shop filled with large and almost frightening dildos. I haven’t had to enter a secret trapdoor since trying to buy pirated DVDs in the early 2000s.

This attitude towards even just talking about sex is still highly prevalent in the Philippines, a conservative Catholic-dominated country. Everyone’s hush-hush about it, to the point that sex shops are concealed and attempting to visit one is considered “sketchy.”

How growing my own house plants changed my life

I love Lana del Rey. When I write in the evening, I either listen to Born to Die: Paradise Edition or her 2012 iTunes Festival set. However, that changed when I got new housemates: my plants.

It all started with a packet of sinigang seed mix I got from Ace Hardware. When the tomatoes produced fruits, I went to Quezon City Memorial Circle to get a peace lily. NASA included the said plant in their list of air-purifying houseplants. The QCMC visits became more frequent and I always end up bringing home at least two plants from each visit. When I got a job, I delved into the mysterious world of orchids. My first salary went to the native Euanthe Sanderiana. When I became too busy with work, I opted to get plants online. And then, it went on and on and on until I no longer put my money in my savings account.
