Last weekend, at the wedding of the scions of two of the country’s wealthiest families—Chris Warns (of the Madrigal clan) and Bianca Zobel (eldest daughter of Iñigo and Maricris Zobel)—in the Zobel estate in Calatagan, Batangas, people walked up to Susie Ortigas to pay her a compliment—“You’re blooming!”
Here are my “OMG” moments of 2011. They’re not earthshaking. They neither changed the lifestyle scene (we ran the Top 12 Lifestyle stories of 2011 last December 30) nor were talked about, but I’ll nonetheless remember 2011 for them, culled from my lunches, dinners or casual encounters.
WHERE DID the time go? Over dinner last month, Dr. Randy Francisco asked what everybody—after the song— must be asking. You have hardly stored away the clutter of your life last year, when the year is nearly done again, and you can hardly catch up, not only with the stuff you must do, but also with what you must give and take. You feel you can hardly do enough—for your work, for the people you care for, for society.
There’s nothing like having dinner with women who admit to not having a man in their lives, at least not officially. These are women who profess self-sufficiency—and happiness in that state.
I thought this would go the way ladies’ lunches go—talking about kids, hubbies/lovers, work stress, to-lust-for bags or Nadal/Federer, not necessarily in that order of importance. This time, however, it doesn’t go that way.
