THERE’S no escaping the scorching heat of the sun, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look good while sweating it out. It  only means we must work extra hard to look cool under pressure.

While sunscreen is vital all throughout the year, summer is that time when you need to make an effort to apply it faithfully and consistently.

Primer is quite important before wearing foundation, as your primer works to keep your makeup as fresh as possible. I think the best one in town is Makeup Forever’s High Definition Primer. It comes in a variety of colors that cater specifically to your skin’s needs. I look for the one with a yellow undertone to even my skin out, which makes it easier for me to conceal blemishes.

Foundation

Look for a waterproof foundation that works for you. I personally love the new Luminescence CC Cream by Giorgio Armani that was gifted to me by a friend who came from Hong Kong.

While this is not strictly a foundation, as it is more like a tinted moisturizer, I really liked how it evened out my color because of its yellow undertone. There was some coverage and, with its SPF 35, you could use this alone under some good powder.

If you need more coverage, apply your favorite waterproof foundation sparingly, and buff it for a dewy and all-natural look. Mac’s Pro Longwear Foundation is a light and comfortable option that gives great coverage.

Eyes

Likewise, your eyes will need some eye primer to keep your shadow in place. Avoid creamy shadows that might cake under high humidity. If you can avoid shadow altogether, find a waterproof mascara to accentuate your lashes. Apply some petroleum jelly on your lids for a fresh and sexy glow. 

Lips

Summer is the time of year to wear light and comfortable clothing. Similarly, find a lipstick that is light and sheer to match the mood of the season.  If you are adventurous,  play with vibrant lipsticks that feel festive and happy (just like summer). If you’re a nude fan, like I am, NARS Sheer Lipstick in Cruising is a nice nude pink that matches any skin tone. 

Hair

Keep your hair fresh and healthy by conscientiously hydrating with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. The humidity can make your hair frizz up, so nourishing your locks with a good mask every so often will definitely help keep your hair bouncy.

With the ’70s vibe strong this summer, braids are definitely something you will want to experiment with and try out.
