8 qualities of a real man | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Lucky are we to live in this new and changing world that has dropped the traditional thinking of gender stereotyping. Gone are the days when the word “manly” would evoke the one-dimensional image of an overly aggressive, unemotional guy who would work hard like there’s no tomorrow. Finally, men are no longer afraid to show that they care.

There is a new breed of men on the rise. And leading the pack are these accomplished men who show us what makes a real man:

1. A real man is devoted.

We all know Doug Kramer, the professional basketball player who is currently power forward for the GlobalPort Batang Pier. Starting his career in the Ateneo Blue Eagles, he has devoted a considerable amount of time and effort into training for his professional career. Off the court, he is also known to netizens for being the head of Team Kramer, his family’s own Facebook fan page which, as of writing, has more than 6 million followers. He is the quintessential family man as he is hands-on as a father to Kendra, Scarlett, and Gavin. As a loving father, he takes the time to assist his kids as they take a bath and even being there as they play house. With his wife Cheska Garcia-Kramer, they make sure to combine the kids’ discipline sessions with parental affection such as hugging and kissing. Doug is a real man because he is a PBA player + a devoted family man.

2. A real man is faithful.

Ryan Agoncillo is not only faithful to his busy schedule as a host, but also supportive to pregnant wife Judy Ann Santos and her passion for cooking. So much so that he took the same culinary course at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies! Despite his busy schedule as a host, he still manages to prioritize having playtime with his kids. His ultimate dad goal is to be seen as the first superhero to his son Lucho and the first love to his daughter Yohan. Ryan is a real man because he is a host + a faithful husband and father.

3. A real man is hopeful.

JC “The Rocket” Intal stayed positive even after multiple team trades and a torn meniscus injury that stopped him from playing for months. After 9 years in the PBA, he was finally invited to play for the prestigious Gilas Pilipinas. He remains hopeful and even more determined to be better at his craft, now that he and wife Bianca Gonzalez are expecting their first baby. He has been a supportive partner throughout her pregnancy as he takes care of housekeeping duties despite his hectic basketball schedule. Outside the court, another side of him emerges – one that shows his love for his wife through simple acts like cooking her breakfast and crafting a handwritten letter just for her. JC is a real man because he is an athlete + a soon-to-be father.

4. A real man is street-smart.

Agricultural businessman Nico Bolzico is the head of Siembra Directa Corporation. With the company, he aims to help out the less fortunate by providing mechanized farming techniques to them. Cost and time for land preparation is reduced with a direct planting method, wherein the machinery simultaneously cuts slots into the ground and deposits seeds and fertilizer. What’s more, he is also familiar to the public as Solenn Heussaff’s charming and witty fiancé. Ever supportive of her showbiz career, he is seen alongside Solenn in events, gamely posing for photos. Nico is a real man because he is a businessman + a husband-to-be.

5. A real man cares for others.

Behind those good looks is actually a full-time ophthalmologist at St. Luke’s Medical Center. Mark Agas is a man that cares for his patients. He gets a sense of fulfillment from serving people, seeing the impact it creates on their lives. In fact, he regularly volunteers in various social missions in the country. He looks up to his dad, always making time for his family, his strongest support system. Mark is a real man because he is a model + a caring doctor.

6. A real man is selfless.

Luke Landrigan is an award-winning professional surfer and resort and surf school owner. But more importantly, he is a selfless father to son Kai, even teaching him how to surf at a tender young age. He always ensures that his son is okay despite being miles apart, whether it be as simple as checking if he has eaten or finished his assignments at school. Luke is a real man because he is a surf school owner + a selfless father.

7. A real man serves his society.

Besides driving and reviewing beautiful cars, multimedia automotive journalist James Deakin is known for his philanthropy. A case in point was when he represented Oplan Hatid, which called for volunteers to drive thousands of survivors of Typhoon Yolanda to their homes. Known to many, he is indeed an advocate of road safety and has proposed different measures to promote it like a campaign to install speed limiters in public buses. No matter how busy his work schedule can be, he makes it a point to allot time to spend with his wife and 3 kids by bringing them along on work trips outside the country or through the simple moments savored at home. James is a real man because he is a motoring journalist + a social servant.

8. A real man is loving.

Coach Chappy Callanta is a renowned program director for 360 Fitness Club and a strength and conditioning specialist. His love for fitness is no match for his unparalleled commitment to his wife and two kids, his main motivation for exercising in the first place. He spends quality time with his children by bringing them to work and by cultivating a love for health and fitness in them. Chappy is a real man because he is a strength and conditioning specialist + a loving father.
