A proudly Pinoy app that lets you earn real-world rewards—and sing at the same time. That’s what you will experience with “Sarah G Popsters,” the new game app from Xeleb, the country’s first celebrity mobile game company.
The game app is in honor of pop princess Sarah Geronimo, following Xeleb’s other celebrity games such as “Anne Galing” with Anne Curtis, “Adventures with Kuya Kim” with Kim Atienza, “Trip Ni Belle” with Isabelle Daza and “Market Master” with Erwan Heusaff.
“I am very happy and grateful to Xeleb,” said Geronimo during the recent launch of the game at the Mind Museum in Taguig City. “The first time I heard that Anne [Curtis] has a game app, I said ‘It so cute!’ It feels great [to have my own] because the game is already a tribute to you in a way.”
Bubble-popping game
The app is a bubble-popping game; one has to fire a bubble at another group of matching color bubbles to burst them and earn points. Clearing a level will unlock Sarah G.’s songs.
The singer-actress describes it as “fun, entertaining and surprising.”
The game is ideally designed for Sarah G.’s legion of fans, according to Cholo Tagaysay, chief marketing officer of Xurpas, Xeleb’s parent company.
“There are millions of fans out there. These ‘Popsters’ are absolutely loyal to Sarah. It’s important for us to create a game that will make them happy. When we developed the game, it’s the fans that we took into consideration first.
“It doesn’t require appointment gaming. It’s not the type of game where I have to block off 10 hours tonight just to play, otherwise I won’t level up,” Tagaysay added.
“The game is designed to be played in bite sizes. And even if you’ve already played it a hundred times, there will always be new things to discover. You can play it for months!”
Passionate about music
“We know that Filipinos are passionate about music,” added Geronimo. “This is a wonderful treat for them. We picked the songs that they would really love, especially the upbeat ones. This game is one way to connect and interact with them in a fun way. Hopefully, they will enjoy it as much as I do. Actually, kinikilig ako!”
Tagaysay revealed that Geronimo herself played a big part in developing the game, which took three months to refine.
“Nobody knows what her Popsters will enjoy, will want, and will look for, more than Sarah herself. So everything in the game, its concept, how it looks and feels, how easy or difficult it is to play, and even the color of the bubbles—all of that had to be approved by Sarah.”
Tagaysay said Xeleb’s mobile games are tailored to highlight the celebrity’s distinct personality.
“For instance, ‘Market Master’ is about grocery shopping because Erwan is a chef. In ‘Trip ni Belle,’ because Belle loves fashion and travel, her game is about that. In the case of Sarah, it’s all about music… The whole concept of ‘Sarah G Popsters’ is that Sarah will take you on her concert tour. As you level up in the game, you unlock her songs like ‘Sa Iyo’ and ‘Tayo.’ You will also hear her throwing cheers in the background like ‘Good job, Popsters!’ and ‘Idol!’”
“It has to be authentic,” added Tagaysay. “So you need to be able to feel Sarah’s presence every second of the game, whether she’s talking to you or singing. It’s like having Sarah G. in your pocket!”
And the game is a double winner. If Sarah G. gets impressed with your score as you level up even more and discover her other songs, she might also give you other awesome prizes, like gemstones.
Real-world treats also await. “Surprise! Play the game and you’ll find out!” said Tagaysay.
“Sarah G Popsters” can be downloaded on Google Play, and is on free trial for three days. When you’re done with the trial, you will be given options and instructions for subscription so you can go on playing the game and reaping rewards.
