Young visual artists on the rise | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

TALENTED YOUNG artist Jessi Jacinto Singson held her debut exhibit when the British School of Manila (BSM) showcased the talents of its graduating batch recently.

Like all other BSM happenings, the event was delightfully and expertly done. Bizu catered, which made the exhibit less of a school event and something more special. Guests included Bong-Bong Marcos and lawyer Liza Araneta Marcos; Bonito Singson, the artist’s father; Annette Ablan, Malou de Guzman, Jean Saburit; and other close friends and relatives of the artist, palanggas.

I spoke to Isabella Bruton, an 18-year-old British-Filipino. She said she’s interested in portrait painting of the early 20th century. She added that her style is heavily influenced by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt.

Meanwhile, Susana Diaz-Perez, 17, said her art is inspired by the traditional folk art of her native Peru. She does pop art, using bold colors.

Jessi is 18. “After being cured of obsessive-compulsive disorder,” her teacher joked,” “Jessi developed work exploring surfaces, such as undulating cloth, with a keen attention to detail.”

She went on to develop portraits in a much looser style, working along the style of such artists as Jenny Saville and Lucian Freud, with thick brushstrokes and often shocking subjects.

Her art has an unprecedented style that is both unique and nearly perfect in every basic aspect of painting.

Needless to say, this year’s BSM’s IB Visual Arts Exhibit was an unmatched success. It provided everyone an idea of the bright future of the school’s young and talented students, dahlings.

New Cinderella endorser

Young actress and model Rhian Ramos is the newest celebrity endorser Cinderella.

Wearing an emerald-green asymmetrical dress from Seventeen, with an edgy studded belt, the actress looked every inch a fashion-plate, at the contract signing with Cinderella’s CEO Arthur G. Coronel, marketing director Malou C. de Venecia, and group manager for imported brands Richie C. Santos.

Also at the contract signing were merchandising manager for local brands Marielle Santos-Po and GMA Artist Center manager Ida Henares, dahlings.

The signing is the latest achievement of Rhian. In 2006, Rhian had her debut in the TV series “Captain Barbell.” This was followed by a string of roles in popular shows. For her film debut, “The Promise,” she won the Golden Screen Award for  Breakthrough Performance in 2007.

Rhian has also released a dance-music album, “Audition Dance Battle,” under Universal Records.

No wonder Rhian herself embodies the Cinderella! Gal: multifaceted, excellent, always relevant and, in all instances, dressed to impress, dahlings.
