Mandarin Oriental Manila celebrates the Mid-Autumn Moon on Sept. 18.
The annual event, also known as Sheung Yuet Night, is held on the eve of the Moon Festival.
On Sept. 18, there’ll be auspicious rituals, a lauriat dinner, an engaging mooncake game, and raffle. Tickets to the event are available in the hotel’s mooncake booth (P2,688 net for adults, P1,388 net for children).
The grand celebration starts with cocktails at 6 p.m. at the MO Lounge, followed by an auspicious paai shan ritual and a colorful lantern-lighting ceremony to promote positive chi energy. It will be led by international geomancer Joseph Chau.
The lauriat dinner at Tin Hau, prepared by executive Chinese chef Hann Furn Chen and his team, will have eight courses of traditional and contemporary Chinese cuisine: Mid-Autumn Special Combination Platter (marinated jellyfish, Peking duck roll, crispy eel fritters with spicy plum sauce, and deep-fried shrimp mousse stuffed in bicho-bicho with mayonnaise); Double-boiled Watercress with Seashell and Pork Spareribs Soup; Beggar’s Chicken; Wok-Fried Prawns with Spicy Tomato and Rice Wine Sauce, Szechuan-style; Steamed Live Garoupa with superior soy sauce; Stir-Fried Assorted Seafood with Rainbow Vegetable and Chives served with oatmeal buns; and Wok-Fried U-dong noodles with vegetables and mushrooms in soy sauce.
Capping the meal is sweetened lotus seed, longan and honey date, and the traditional festival homemade mooncake.
Another highlight will be the fun dice game Pua Tiong Chiu, a popular game among the Chinese-Filipinos.
The hotel will also offer chef Hann Furn Chen’s signature homemade oven-baked and snow-skin mooncakes signifying longevity and harmony. The mini and large mooncakes will be available as gifts in elegant boxes.
