Lifestyle went backstage last Saturday at Randy Ortiz’s “Randy O Silver Heaven on Earth” show to check out what was happening on the beauty front.

 

The show was Randy Ortiz’s celebratory nod to his 25th year in the fashion industry, and was also the final installment of the Inquirer Lifestyle-Look Magazine-Samsung Face-Off 2013 series for the year.

 

The models who were set to sashay down the catwalk were being made up by Shu Uemura’s team of makeup artists; hairstyles were by Jing Monis and his team.

 

The look for the models featured sky-high bouffant hairstyles, heavily winged eyeliner and orange-red lips. To maintain the theme of silver, thin strands of silver hair extensions were placed in a V, like a widow’s peak, on top of the hairstyle. Meanwhile, silver shimmer was also placed on the lids to accent the sharp black eyeliner.

 

“Orange-red for the lips is a trend color for Spring-Summer 2014; it balances the winged eyeliner for the eye makeup,” explained Hanna Pechon, Shu Uemura’s head makeup artist for

the show.

 

Before applying the winged eyeliner, makeup artist Cathy Cantada-Dizon needed to apply silver shimmer to the lids, which gave depth to the eye makeup and added a catchlight for the runway’s bright lights.

 

For those who want to use shimmer or glittery eye makeup, Cathy recommends prepping the eye area with a concealer first. “Don’t apply shimmer or glitter eye shadow on top of powdered lids; your product won’t adhere to them. I like to prep the lids with a bit of concealer; the stickiness will help the glitter to stay.”

 

Avoid brushing on the eye shadow, especially when you’re dealing with chunkier specks of glitter. Instead, pat on the glitter using a flat eye shadow brush. Build up color gradually instead of piling it on all at once; you’ll find that slowly adding color will make the shimmer more defined, and will last longer.
