Jinggoy Salcedo’s 2nd solo show, ‘Pro-Vision,’ opens at Acacia Hotel in Alabang on Oct. 24

“ENCHANTING Series” 1

Sculptor Jinggoy Salcedo combines steel—a difficult medium to work with compared to the more malleable brass and bronze—and glass in his dazzling works.

Known for creating sculptures without the use of assistants, he has combined his already extensive knowledge of glasswork and glassblowing with steel metalworking. He succeeds in using cold materials to create organic forms and figures—giving life to cold metal.

Salcedo will have his second solo show, “Pro-Vision,” at the lobby of the Acacia Hotel Manila in Alabang, Muntinlupa. Opening reception is on Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Exhibit will run until Nov. 7.

The title alludes to how the artist views his practice: on the one hand, an exhibit of his professional vision;  on the other, referring to the provisions that his art and creativity have given him.

Definitive of this exhibition is its title piece, “Provision.” Figuratively a tree that looks like a ladder, it is a conceptual homage to the theme of the show. Beautifully done in stainless steel and glass, the sculpture is a high-quality piece that shows the unique skill and mastery of the artist.

“Strong-Willed” is a whimsical piece in which a steel figure uses glass birds to achieve flight. It’s a wonderful example of how Salcedo can achieve organic forms in otherwise inflexible media.

The artist is a trained interior designer whose sculptures employ a unique production process (he does all the cutting and polishing himself). He joins steel and glass, drawing from  his experience working for his family’s glass business.

The Acacia Hotel Manila, a Filipino-owned five-star luxury hotel in the heart of the bustling Alabang business district, is at 5400 East Asia Drive corner Commerce Avenue, Filinvest Corporate City, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

The exhibition is organized by Galerie Francesca, Alabang branch (Unit 2B-3B Treasure Trove, 3/L, Festival Supermall, Alabang, Muntinlupa City). Call tel. 6592667.
