MANILA, Philippines – The Miss Universe Pageant is not all glam; it is also a lot of heart. This is what Ariella Arida discovered when she and the other Miss Universe candidates visited a hospital filled with children who are stricken by cancer and blood infections. “It was an inspiring experience to interact with these children who remain happy and positive in disposition despite their life-threatening ailments”, Ariella shared. “The hospital visit reminded me of the Operation Smile mission we joined as part of the pageant activities of Binibining Pilipinas. I hope that we can help more children in the future,” she adds.

Ariella was moved by the smiles of the courageous children in the immunology, hematology and surgery departments of the hospital. She was also glad for yet another chance to interact with reigning Miss Universe Olivia Culpo who she described as “gorgeous”.

After more than a week of sponsors visits, photo shoots and interaction with her fellow candidates, Ariella says that they are now gearing up for the pageant proper. They are starting the pageant rehearsals today and in the evening, everyone is all excited for the traditional Miss Universe auction night. Ariella will be auctioning off her “national gift” which is a set of pearls.
