MANILA, Philippines – Slain celebrity fashion designer Kenneth Chua had no enemies before and was a good person.
This was what his parents told the Makati City Police as the authorities looked into the killing and alleged robbery committed against the 38-year-old designer in his atelier or workshop in Makati City Tuesday morning.
Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban, Makati City Police chief, told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview Wednesday that Chua was hog tied, stabbed five times, and slashed on the neck Tuesday morning after his attackers made off with his wallet and cellphone.
“Based on the statement of his parents, Chua had a clean record. He never had enemies before and was a good person,” Lukban said in Filipino.
According to the Makati police chief, the last time Chua was seen alive was also the last time he was with his parents around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
But after approximately 19 hours, Chua’s parents saw their son in a pool of blood around 11 a.m. inside the comfort room of his workshop along Dayap Street in Barangay (village) Palanan.
The police are looking into the possibility that the robbery had been carefully planned since there were no signs of forced entry in his workshop.
Lukban said Chua had also sustained bruises, showing signs that he resisted his attackers.
Because of these signs, Lukban said the killing could be concluded as premeditated. Thus, the police will elevate the case from homicide to murder.
Chua designed clothes for celebrities mostly from a television network giant.
Netizens expressed grief over Chua’s death through Twitter. Some are using the hashtag #JusticeForKennethChua
One PJ Tan (@PaigeeeBug) posted “Rest in Peace, Kenneth. The fashion industry has lost yet another brilliant designer.”
Actress and former reality show contestant Devon Seron (@devonseron17) tweeted “Hindi ako makapaniwala sa nabalitaan ko sa nangyari @iamkennethchua.. grabe sana mahuli agad ang gumawa nun.. May his soul rest in peace.”
