It was supposed to be a surprise bash given by his intimate group of pals for architect and interior designer Chito Antonio. But a day before his birthday, he himself decided to host dinner at The Tivoli in Mandarin Oriental Manila.
One call and all his guests arrived on time, including Ambassador Tonet Lagdameo with wife Linda who looked divine in her gorgeous royal blue outfit; renowned artist Betsy Westendorp; Rep. Baby Arenas; Naty Pappas with her eye-catching strand of Tahitian pearls; Menchi Cu-Unjieng; Patsy Concepcion; low-profile food magnate William Untiong and his charmant wife Claire; Petite Olbes; Hermès and Bulgari’s Mario Katigbak; Rustan’s Criselda Lontok, and Galleria Duemila’s Silvana Diaz.
On hand to make sure the dinner went fine was Mandarin’s director of communications Charisse Chuidian and her team.
Everyone raved about the setup—from the flowers to the service, and, of course, the well-chosen menu.
Linda Lagdameo was grateful that the raspberry Bellini cocktail she requested was served.
In the end, it was like an Oscar-winning gathering, dahlings, with the fine details and refined service that Mandarin is known for.
Hats off to our king for a day, Chito Antonio!
‘Theater of the Mind’
The exciting team of Ricky Toledo and Chito Vijandre of home accessories shop Firma pulled off another coup with the recent opening of “Theater of the Mind”—the debut exhibit of experimental sculptor and jewelry artist Michelline Syjuco.
The event, held at Firma’s shop at Greenbelt 3 in Makati City, featured Syjuco’s radical new creations.
The dazzling stars, palangga, were the Yorick skull bags—hand-sculpted and embellished with antique watch parts, prefabricated hardware, steel spikes and exotic gemstones. All I could say was “wow!” as women guests tried the bags on for size.
The commotion over the exhibit pieces was interrupted by an art performance from Michelline’s sister, Beatrix Syjuco, entitled “Someday, Always.”
Their mother, multitalented artist and our palangga Jean-Marie Syjuco, was present.
It was an unforgettable night of glam, with mind-blowing art, jewelry and theater.
The culinary delights of chef Daniel Hesse and wines from Ralph’s made the event more satisfying, natch.

Regenerative medicine
Medical science has made it possible to add years to the average human life span. As we’ve noticed, adopting a healthy lifestyle has made people less susceptible to infectious diseases, dahlings.
Those who want to continue leading a quality life beyond their prime should learn about “regenerative medicine,” dahlings.
The EA Regenerative Medicine Center of Excellence recently launched its cutting-edge facility in Makati City.
“This is a first in the country and Southeast Asia,” said Dr. Marc H. Hedrick, president of Cytori Therapeutics USA.
The medical center is said to “offer the most advanced regenerative medical procedures utilizing state-of-the-art processing, delivery, and preservation of medical-grade adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs) that follow the most stringent clinical protocols, registries and standards of operations.”
Adipose tissue, palangga, is considered the richest source of regenerative cells in the body. These cells are comprised of a mixed population of cells which are collectively referred to as ADRCs. The mixed nature of ADRCs are believed to contribute to the healing process.
Guests were treated to a video that showed what the medical center offers and how the technology works.
My favorite traffic-stopper, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, hosted the launch and introduced the keynote speakers that included the center’s managing director and cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Eder G. Dizon, and Dr. Hedrick.
Special guest was Manille’s Mayor Joseph Estrada. Some of our town’s notable names attended as well, dahlings.
