You won’t find flashy wheels or the latest cell phones in Paul Chuapoco’s blog, Paul the PR Guy, which chronicles his every day (but not so normal) life, compiling musings about life, fashion and industry events. His blog contains a hodgepodge of Manila’s industry happenings with a few life lessons thrown in.

Paul’s day job is running his own PR firm, Practice Makes Perfect Communications, which specializes in events and brand promotion.

Living by the words “Be a good influence” and “make business fun,” he has managed to maintain work-life balance. Paul chats with Backstage Pass and tells us about his busy blogging schedule, favorite grooming products and how he’s continuously finding new ways to add pizzazz to men’s wear basics.

I realized blogging was more than just a hobby when… brands started to notice and contact me for collaborations and ambassadorship. Now, I don’t have to spend as much on Ray-Bans and watches anymore, and clothes, too.

These days I’m… always online—15 hours a day. You’ll see me tinkering with my laptop and my iPhones. Work (my day job) comes in between.

The biggest misconception about bloggers is that… we are fame whores and we’re just in it for the free stuff. It’s actually hard work to document outfit photos, events and practically every movement in our lives, adding those to the fact that lugging around a big camera is not an easy thing to do, and blogging involves a lot of thinking.

When I blog, I’m usually… on my bed with my smallest dog (my Spitz). In PJs! I usually blog in the morning, upon waking up.

I have a massive collection of… watches! I like the Nixon and Meister brands. My prized pieces are a Tag Heuer and an Oris. A watch is the best excuse for a guy to accessorize.

I’m a spectacle kind of guy because… I love Ray-Ban! Sunglasses, in general, give you that mysterious vibe.

Guilty pleasures

My bath counter is filled with… a mix of Nivea (for my body) and Belo sunblocks (for my face). I also like Flawless’ sunblock gel. When it comes to perfume, my current favorites are Paco Rabanne Invictus, Burberry Brit Rhythm and Carolina Herrera 212 Men NYC Body Spray.

When it comes to personal maintenance, I’m obsessed with… cleaning my ears on a daily basis and making sure I keep zits at bay.

The kind of products you’ll find in my bathroom are… Clear shampoo, Pond’s Men Acne Clear Oil Control face wash, Kiehl’s Facial Fuel No-Shine Moisturizing Lip Balm, Nivea Shaving Foam, an ISkin New York set, GlamGlow Youth Mud, and tons of hair-styling products like Tresemmé mousse and hair spray, L’Oreal Play Ball Deviation Paste and Bench Fix Clay Doh.

My grooming guilty pleasure is… a regular visit to Flawless for the Nano Power Peel and Beauty Drip. The Nano Power Peel is a microdermabrasion facial treatment, which gives you instant results on your skin’s appearance, making it look more youthful and fresh. On the other hand, I like the Beauty Drip particularly for its positive effects on my immune system and my sleep. I also experience less breakouts and my concentration’s more on point (which is important if you’re a blogger like me).

My three forever-favorite grooming products are… Adidas Sport Energy Anti-Perspirant, Pond’s Men Energy Charge Gel Moisturizer and Close Up Fire-Freeze toothpaste.

Staving off pimples

Paul is no stranger to zits that make their home on the face. While there are ways to avoid pimples, sometimes there’s no help for a single pimple that shows up at the worst time.

Whether due to stress, hormones, or poor diet, pimples are an unfortunate skin problem that most people have to deal with at some point in their lives.

So Dermalogica created Clear Start, a new skincare line for teens and young adults. The new line prevents and treats symptoms of mild to moderate acne.

The new line consists of nine over-the-counter products: from Breakout Clearing Foaming Washes (P995) to Breakout Clearing Emergency Spot Fixers (P995).

The products utilize proven blemish-fighting ingredients and soothing botanicals to reduce bacteria, control oil and clear breakouts. Available in Rustan’s department stores nationwide.

Paul’s choice products come from department stores and Flawless branches nationwide.
