At 29 years old, Filipino-Australian rugby star Chris Everingham is eager to try anything that moves his heart.
His website, chriseveringham.com, contains videos of his TV appearances, talents and interests, among them skydiving, kite surfing, breakdancing and even cutting hair.
This member of the Philippine Volcanoes national rugby union team hopes to change peoples’ minds about health and fitness with his articles, backed by his bachelor’s degree on Nutrition and Dietetics.
Chris lives in Sydney and is studying to be a lecturer while running his Lifted Health Business in the North Shore, also in Australia.
But he frequently travels to the Philippines for leisure, family and rugby.
For Chris, trying out new things means living life the way it should be—filled with new experiences.
Sense of pride
The most wonderful thing I was able to do because of rugby is… to represent the Philippines in international events. It gives me a special sense of pride. Also, the small things like
teaching the sport to kids, making people happy just by helping out and participating in various outreach projects.
I’m most proud of… giving back to society what I have gained from sports, and also my promoting health and fitness in the Philippines.
The latest thing I’m into is… kite surfing. That’s something I always do whenever I have the time. I also like breakdancing as a physical workout.
I train at least… five to six days a week.
My training routine involves… two days of weight training, two to three days of fitness exercises like cardio, and at least a day of ball work.
I wear a lot of… walking shorts and V-neck shirts. I find this combination really appropriate for the Philippine weather. It’s casual yet classic-looking. As for brands, I don’t have any specific preference, but I like the feel of Uniqlo and Fred Perry.
My favorite men’s accessories are… leather belts and watches. It can be any type of watch and any brand—dress watch, sports watch, Rolex, Breitling, Quiksilver. I just like watches in general. For belts, I like the quality of Rodd and Gunn.
Clean and classic
My personal style is… simple, clean and classic.
When it comes to grooming, I’m the kind of guy who… showers at least twice a day. I believe in taking care of my body, especially my skin and teeth. I brush and floss at least twice a day. For my skin, I usually moisturize at night with a concentrated serum. I use sunblock, too. I never go outdoors without protection. I like Iskin’s products as they are nongreasy and lightweight. They suit active men like me. I also like to trim my facial hair once a week, just to maintain the right amount of scruff.
The products you’ll find in my bathroom are… Bosley Defense Shampoo for Non-Color Treated Hair, Macleans Toothpaste, Watsons Floss, Dermalogica Shaving Cream, Iskin Deep Cleanser from Flawless, Iskin Balancing Toner, Iskin Moisture Defense Serum as my moisturizer, Iskin Ultimate Sunscreen, Bulgari Aqua cologne.
The brand I have the most of… is Bulgari, its colognes and sunscreens.
When it comes to personal maintenance, I make sure to… apply sunscreen daily.
When it comes to grooming, I’m most particular about… the length and style of my hair. When I was young in Australia, we would always go to the same barber to get a haircut and mum would pay for it. But as we got older, my brothers and I had to start paying for our own haircuts because we no longer had the students’ price and mum couldn’t afford it. But we couldn’t afford it either as we had only casual work, so instead of paying for haircuts, we bought a home grooming set and started cutting each other’s hair in the garage.
Also, being half-Pinoys, we were always too shy to go to the barber to fix our hair. But we were comfortable telling each other what to do, and if one of us messed up another’s haircut, then guess who was also getting a messed-up haircut after? So we learned to cut hair well pretty quickly. We did that for a few years until we started working after university and playing professional rugby.
