I have always considered myself a “glam girl.” High heels and sparkles were my constant companion. Against my doctor’s orders, I would still wear heels until my eighth month of pregnancy! I could not shake the habit off.
“Dressing down” just did not exist in my vocabulary.
Then, lightning struck: the arrival of my three children! Running around on three-inch heels and planning an outfit for the day proved to be a bigger challenge. Yet I refused to succumb to flip-flops and sweat pants! I knew that I urgently needed to find a quick and easy solution to this fashion dilemma.
It’s just fitting that for my debut article, I share with you my solution: my list of glam-girl must-haves, instant glamorizer accessories.
Whether worn with jeans and tee, a basic dress, or work pants and blouse, these accessories will spell the difference. Stand-outs with high impact, these will be your go-to items for days when you don’t have the time to labor over that perfect outfit—proving that despite a lifestyle filled with mommy and household duties plus being a career woman, one need not sacrifice style.
1 Chandelier earrings— Long and festive: an ultra eye-catching pair that will be the crowning touch. Choose one with a handmade element with beads and crystals to allow ease in daywear, another with serious sparkles for those evenings out.
2 A statement neckpiece— Either sleek and bold or intricate and elaborate, it should be special enough to transform even a basic cotton tee.
3 Cocktail rings—The bigger, the better. Wear one solitary or pile them on.
4 Leather cuff—A studded or buckled version gives just the right amount of edge.
5 Embellished evening bag—A beaded or feathered evening purse is a great investment. It can dress up even the simplest dress for those unexpected formal functions.
6 A glitzy clutch—A grab-and-go style you can toss into your day tote for a spontaneous dinner date. A metallic leather or embellished piece would work best!
7 The statement shoe—These are sure to make you feel like a million bucks and look 5 lb thinner! Choose one with a platform for added comfort.
8 The metallic flat—Gladiators, embellished, or simple thongs. A shiny gold or silver hue is key. This, I think, is a better alternative to rubber flip-flops.
9 The platform shoe—A throwback to the ’70s, I thank Mr. Ferragamo for creating these height-boosting wonders! Much more feet-friendly than stilettos, they make heels more tolerable.
10 A bold day bag—A designer brand is not the only rule of thumb. Shape, details and color are key. Try a metallic tote, color-block satchel, or one of exotic skin.
