There are many reasons why Bobby Wang, Global Makeup Artist for Estée Lauder, is sought-after in backstage fashion shows. His palettes for eye makeup are beautifully thought out, and he works with a great passion and love for makeup.
Editorially, he is equally artistic, creating looks for Chinese franchises of Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan magazines.
Recently he flew to Manila to conduct a two-day workshop. He gave celebs and other women in attendance three-minute beauty techniques. The highlight was a tutorial on how to achieve Kendall Jenner’s sky-high cheekbones.
“Three minutes is all beauty should ever take,” he said.
I wish I could do makeup for… Amy Winehouse. She was so unique and I love her signature eyeliner look. Had I gotten the chance to do her makeup, I would have tried something different on her.
I’d like to do my own makeup version on… Audrey Hepburn. I would have liked to try some wild makeup on her, like hot smoky or rock looks.
I’m known for… creating the best canvas—perfect face, even foundation base with good coverage, and skin that still looks like skin. Also, hot smoky eye makeup, sexy yet classic.
For me makeup… has no rules. It represents personalities and there is no right or wrong as long as you are confident wearing your favorite makeup. That’s what makeup is all about. I do like to play with it, have fun and try new things.
A popular look I’ve been seeing on the fashion runways that you can take to the streets is… winged eyeliner, an iconic makeup look that never goes out of style. You can wear it with any lip color to achieve a stylish makeup look.
The products I’ve been excited about lately are… Little Black Primer from Estée Lauder. You definitely should check out the Little Black Primer ad video starring Kendall Jenner! It is so cool. It gives you a lush lash look with fan-out, dramatic curl but with separation.
I also like Courreges x Estée Lauder. It is the first time we have a crossover with a fashion brand, inspired by the space and gravity concept of Courreges then matched with Estée Lauder’s beauty philosophy.
My last pick is Little Black Liner, a sister product to Little Black Primer. It has two applicators: one ultra fine for a micro defined eyeliner look, and the other an angled applicator which gives you the bold eyeliner look with precision.
Current makeup trends to try this season include… strong lip color with velvet finishing, such as bright neo colors, or dark red and plums. Another is face sculpting. Use bronzing powder and highlighter to achieve a sculpted face.
Products I’m hooked on are… Pure Color Envy Shine Lipstick. It has a balmy texture and shiny finish. My favorite shades are Surreal Sun, Pink Dragon, Nude Angel. There’s also Pure Color Envy Lipstick, which we just launched in the Philippines; I love every shade of this lipstick range, especially Envious, Potent, Daring, Defiant Coral, Ambitious Pink and Exciting. The crossover with Courreges has produced the most creative items—white eyeliner, cheek ball and push-pen gloss.
When it comes to eye shadow, tones that will complement the Filipino skintone are… Earthy tone eye shadow with shimmery finishing. You can never go wrong with it. Khaki and dark green colors are also nice for the Filipino skin tone.
Envy Eye Shadow Palette has Rebel Metal, Fierce Safari, Ivory Power and Defiant Nude.
A makeup tip you can do to update your look is… BB Glow Highlighter. Use it after any makeup; apply under the eyes and on the T-zone. It will freshen up your look throughout the day and brighten up your face in seconds.
My favorite, easy go-to makeup trick for sky-high cheekbones is… to apply a darker shade foundation on the side of the cheeks, then apply BB Glow Highlighter in a lighter shade on top of the apple cheek. Finish with a touch of blusher.
A secret to getting that “lit from within glow”… is Advance Night Repair. After completing makeup, take one drop of Advance Night Repair, gently pat it on top of cheeks and you will get that gorgeous, dewy “lit from within” in the morning.
Chic ponytail
Flaunt your newly revealed high cheekbones with a simple ponytail that looks chic and put together.
Use a Goody Ouchless purse brush (P299.75) to smoothen all the strands and pull hair in one direction. Use a fine-toothed comb, then secure your mane with Goody Ouchless (4 mm Elasticspack of 17 pieces, P369; pack of 24 pieces, P499.75).
The Goody Ouchless Elastic’s no-metal feature guarantees a snug- and snag-free hold that takes the pain out of ponytails.
If you want to go even sleeker, use a flat iron and more oil to smoothen the hair in the actual pony. With a sleek look, you can get away with more daring makeup looks and still feel sophisticated and professional. It’s also a great way to camouflage greasiness; it uses those natural oils to your advantage. Goody products are available at leading department stores nationwide.
