PASEO Gallery of the Philippines and Jada Art of Singapore have teamed up to mount “A Swirl of a Time,” a solo exhibition of foremost Filipino modern master Romulo Olazo, at ION Art Gallery.
It will be the first solo exhibit in the Lion City of the renowned artist, who died last month.
Olazo has an expansive portfolio of over 1,000 art pieces that reflecting a lifetime achievement.
“Swirls” Series is a segment taken from the much larger “Diaphanous” Series, a long-standing discourse the artist had been continuously working on since 1972.
Laboring over individual canvases in varying hues, Olazo applied a glazing technique in which he constructed layers fine oil paint to build up a composition of depth and volume, yet fragile and ethereal, intensified with a translucent light.
The compositions in the “Swirls” Series portray a playful, jovial and harmonious collection of paintings that capture the characteristics of color and light.
Hailed as one of the country’s most outstanding artists, Olazo amassed a large following of collectors and admirers locally and internationally.
His paintings have successfully sold at auctions at Christie’s. He had participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, Asia, South America and the USA almost annually since 1969, marking over 45 years of complete dedication to his art.
Romulo Olazo’s “A Swirl of a Time” runs till Oct. 3 at ION Art Gallery, 4/L, ION Orchard, Singapore.
