EXCEPTIONAL works on paper by Presidential Medal of Merit Awardee Juvenal Sansó will be displayed at Galerie Joaquin in a limited exhibition titled “Fields Abloom,” beginning with a gallery reception on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m.
The works will showcase the artist’s grasp of flora and landscapes, as well as his mastery of the medium of acrylic on paper. Sansó is a pioneer of the medium in the Philippines, upending the general reputation of paper works as artistically noteworthy collectibles. The works on display prove more than equal to Sansó’s canvas works, although works on paper have characteristics that are unique to the medium. Sansó believes them to give a better brilliance and translucence to the colors. The rare works on display are unique to this exhibition.
“Fields Abloom” is part of Galerie Joaquin’s projects in support of National Arts Month. They are likewise a supplementary exhibition of the yearlong Juvenal Sansó Retrospective, “Timeless Sanso: 70 Years in Art,” which features main exhibitions throughout 2016 at Fundacion Sansó, Ateneo Art Gallery, Ayala Museum, Vargas Museum, Lopez Museum and the Kalaw Ledesma Foundation.
