The weekend was far from peaceful because Beyoncé, the original master of the casual drop, released a new single and video called “Formation.”
Though it’s unclear if it heralds yet another album from the Queen B, the song is a solid commentary on the#BlackLivesMatter, tackling the discrimination against black people with lyrics like “I like my baby hair, with baby hair and afros/I like my Negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils,” while referencing scenes of police brutality against people of color.
Amid issues of racially-charged violence and #OscarsSoWhite, netizens reacted quickly to the video including Beyoncé’s sister Solange, model Kendall Jenner, and editors and writers from several media outfits.
