There’s quite a lot that properly cared for brows can do for a woman’s face. Just ask Benefit Cosmetics’ International spokes-person for global services Jared Bailey.
Bailey, who has been working on brows for a little under a decade, travels the world speaking to women about Benefit Cosmetic’s range of services and salons.
The licensed aesthetician and former journalist recently visited the country to dispense expert advice on beauty dilemmas he usually hears. He was also in the country for the brand’s newest and biggest boutique in SM Megamall.
Backstage pass got the chance to speak with him.
“I love the Philippines for so many reasons!” he said. “I’ll start with mangoes. It’s incredible. Then everyone in the Philippines is just happy. In other Asian cultures, people are just quiet and they don’t really play with you. The Philippines is about fun and that’s what the ‘F’ in Benefit stands for.”
My thoughts on the evolution of brow styles over the decade is… The only ones that we really remember are the ones that are big, bold and natural— Brooke Shields, Madonna in the ’80s, Kim Kardasian today, and Cara Delevinge today.
Celebrities I admire for getting their brows right are… Kim Kardasian—she’s the biggest brow influencer, Cara Delevingne and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Eyebrows are important when it comes to defining your entire look… Because they bring balance and proportion to your face and eyes.
Girls should visit the Benefit Brow Bar to get their brows fixed because… We know brows. We’ve been doing them since 1976.
Once girls have got their brow shape neat, the best way to maintain this at home is… To hide any outgrowth with a concealer or brow highlighter, then enhance the shape with a product like Benefit’s Brow Zing to really define and accentuate the shape.
My top three must-have brow products for girls are… Benefit’s Brow Zing to define and give the brow structure, then Benefit’s Gimme Brow to add texture and bring the structure to life, so it’s more of a 3D brow. Finally, use a little bit of Benefit’s High Brow around the bottom to lift and open up the eye.
The latest trend in brows are… Going back to naturally styled brows. In the runway and magazines, we are seeing a very natural brow.
For a natural brow look… Blend and soften all the edges of the brow. Don’t leave any hard angles.
As of late, the products I’m excited about are… Definitely our entire holiday collection, starting with Bling Brow and Benefit’s Party in a Box. It’s hard for a girl to stand out, especially in a holiday party where everybody is glammed up.
The one way to do it is by adding Bling Brow, which has Swarovski crystals for the brow and for the face.
Then we’ve put all our iconic products in mini sizes, in our adorable holiday tins. To me, the holiday collection is the biggest thing to really make you stand out from a crowd.
Tips and tricks
My tip for Asians who have sparse brows is… To invest in a product that gives you more brow texture, like Benefit’s Gimme Brow. It has micro fibers that mimic the look of real hair.
My tip for Asians who are totally bald in the brows is… Using a combination of wax and powder, like Benefit’s Brow Zing. It can create and define a shape that is not even there.
The best way to look younger is… Fill in those brows and make older friends.
The trick to having an instant eyelift is… To always maintain a great brow shape every four to six weeks.
Waxing and shaping brows should be done… Sitting upright and not lying down because lying down will distort the face.
Never… Wax your own brow. That’s a you tube viral video disaster waiting to happen.
Top tip: Benefit’s famous jet black lengthening mascara just got sexier. For the first time ever, Benefit has created a collectible limited edition, They’re Real! Mascara, P1,500, embellished with crystals from Swarovski. Featuring a sophisticated matte-black tube and cap encrusted with Swarovski crystals, it’s the season’s glitziest accessory. Visit Benefit Cosmetics at their eighth and largest boutique located at the second level bridgeway in SM Megamall.
